Music Instruction Fall 2020 and Beyond
The mission of the Music Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) clearly focuses on effectively serving the membership in their goals of teaching and learning, by promoting a comprehensive music education program that furthers music making by all and supports the advancement of music education as a profession. In this unique time, music educators are modifying their practices not only in teaching, but in classroom orientation, cleaning, spacing and management. It is understood that, as trained professionals, music educators want to offer the absolute best instruction so all students can learn and grow in their knowledge, understanding, and love of music. The objective of the information provided here is to provide practical suggestions and resources for classroom teachers and ensemble directors as they navigate in person, online, and hybrid instructional situations during the pandemic. Our goal is to assist in providing meaningful music instruction for students of all ages and grade levels during the COVID-19 pandemic.
MMEA is not a source of medical or scientific research. We offer resources based on research to assist teachers as we plan for Fall 2020. All research is ongoing so we encourage everyone to be mindful that the current situation will continue to evolve, and local guidance and considerations must be a priority.
This resource does not intend to replace or modify the guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or your local public health departments regarding the timing or protocols for how schools (LEA) should operate during the pandemic. There is no expectation that all schools will or should follow every recommendation included here.
