Mentors & Presenters
Jamie Heil
Jamie Heil is in her twentieth year of teaching, joining the band staff of the Kearney, MO School District in 2008. Her current teaching responsibilities include the Kearney High School marching and symphonic band, and the sixth and seventh grade woodwind classes at Kearney Middle School. Prior to teaching in Kearney, she served for two years as the Director of Bands in the Mid-Buchanan School District. Jamie attended Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Music degree in 2005, and completing her Master of Arts in Education Degree in 2006. In 2014, Jamie achieved National Board Certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She is active as a clinician and adjudicator, and is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the Missouri Music Educators Association, the Missouri Bandmasters’ Association, and Phi Kappa Phi. Mrs. Heil is currently serving as Treasurer for Northwest District #1 of MMEA. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Jamie has taught private clarinet and performed throughout the Kansas City area for many years, performing most recently as a full-time member of the Cameron Municipal Band. She resides in Kearney, Missouri, with her husband, Chris, and 14 year-old daughter, Allie.
Dr. Dorothy Glick Maglione
Dorothy Glick Maglioneis an Assistant Professor of Musicology and Music Education at William Jewell College where she teaches in the music history and music education sequences. Maglione is the advisor for both the Jewell Chapter of NAfME-C and the State Advisor for Missouri NAfME-C.
James Melton
James Melton is the Associate Executive Director at MSHSAA, leading work on Music Activities. He began this role in July of 2023. James provides support in the areas of eligibility, bylaw interpretation, transfers, and the sport of Tennis. Before coming to MSHSAA, James was a vocal music educator and arts administrator for 23 years with Columbia Public Schools. A lifelong advocate for arts education, a vocalist, and Missourian (a Spoofhound through and through), James is proud to be able to support and serve every music educator and student through participation in competitive and evaluative music experiences. Zachary Stelzer
Zachary Stelzer is an active music educator and professional choral singer in the Kansas City area. After receiving his undergraduate degree in Vocal Music Education from William Jewell College in 2017, Zac accepted his first teaching position at Reed Academy Middle School in Springfield, MO. During that time he became involved with the Springfield Chamber Choir, Show-Me Statesmen Barbershop Chapter, and the Missouri State University Gospel Choir. In 2021, Zac co-founded the Springfield Shanty Choir, a local ensemble that teaches sea songs and supports local businesses in the community. Zac received his Masters in Choral Conducting from Missouri State University in 2022 before moving back to Kansas City where he is now the choir director at Discovery Middle School. When not directing, Zac sings with the Missouri Choral Artists and William Jewell’s professional choir, Cardinalis.
Christina Vogler
Christina Vogler was named the Outstanding Beginning Teacher by the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher Education in 2021. Christina is a middle school and high school choir teacher in the NKC School District, where she also music direct their school musicals. She’s also been a music director for Leawood Stage Company productions and various community theatre performances. She also is a member of the professional choir, Cardinalis, and sings for various performances around KC.
